Eoghan Totten lead the Northern Ireland under 16 boys to a bronze team medal at the British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championship in Scotland.

In his first international appearance, the Newcastle athlete was just one place short of an individual medal as he finished 4th against the top junior mountain runners from throughout the British Isles.

The NI Junior Champion was well backed up by Omagh Harrier James Speight in 12th and Mourne’s Michael Stephens in 19th as the Northern Ireland boys secured the bronze behind Scotland and England.

Aine McCann was the top NI finisher the under16 girls. Aine, a British and Irish Orienteering Champion, finished 6th and with Lauren O’Donnell Anderson 14th and Daisy Murray 17th, the girls just missed out on team bronze behind England and Scotland. The NI girls scored 33 points, the same as the Welsh team, but Wales got the bronze medal on countback.

Barry Kelly (Omagh Harriers) was well up in the under 14 boys individual race, finishing 6th, while another Omagh Harrier Conor Moore was 17th in the highly competitive under 18 boys race.

The Championships were held in the Pentland Hills just south of Edinburgh. Hosts Scotland dominated the team results while the individual winners were split equally between Scotland and England, with 3 titles each.
