How did everyone get on in Longford?

Was thrilled to do 2 hrs 10ish (? forgot to stop my watch) after not sleeping at all the previous night from being up all night with dodgy guts. Enjoyed it hugely. I found the other runners to be so encouraging and helpful and the organisation for the half coudn't be faulted.
Only disappointment was that I didn't get to meet JimH. I hoped to shake his hand and tell him how much I admire him and how encouraging and inspiring he is.

Also proved to me how much more work will be needed for a full. So Mooathon next and see from there what to aim for next year.

Congratulations to everyone!

Well done Scooby - it was a good day wasn't it?

I finally nailed a full marathon after DNFs in Cork the last two times out. A very slow 4.46 plod just to ensure I got round. But that's it for me for marathons - they're too flippin hard!

I was pleased to meet Owen Rua of this forum - in fact stayed at the same B&B. Did you finish Owen? I passed you around the four-mile mark I think. And the chap on crutches heading for a five-hour half was of course JimH - an absolute example to the rest of us that moan and groan about our little running aches and pains, Well done mate.

An excellently organised event, though running on the hard shoulders of main roads isn't quite my idea of the joys of running.

Hi Roy, well done on doing the Longford marathon. Yes, I finished, did it in 5 hours and 13 mins. Am happy with that as I ran for just under 22 miles and then walked the last four miles. Ran quite well considering my long runs had only been 3 hours and a half but my normal, weekday, runs are now upto 1 hour and a half. Hope everybody had a good time in Longford and keep on running. All the best, Owen.

Well done Roy on your full marathon. Just as well to take it handy as if you had gone off faster it probably would have been even tougher. I have to say that all the "fulls" coming back over the line made it look so easy. I was so in awe of you all.

I didn't mind the hard shoulders as compared with my usual runs there wasn't potholes to fall into or puddles that you could bathe your granny in, and also less likely to get run over... As well as that the ground is level. Its such a pest to try and run with a steep camber and then to have to keep switching sides of the road. I found all the big posh houses such a distraction on the smaller roads. Plenty of money in Longford.lol

I really enjoyed it, got to talk to lots of nice and encouraging folk around the course. It was nice to do a flat marathon after Achill, Ballyvaughan (where we got lost up a mountain!) and Connemara. I took over 10 mins off my last half marathon time so I'm all for Flat marathons!

When was the Ballyvaughan run? Is it a half marathon? Are you going up to the MOOathon?

Ballyvaughan was on the 24th of May, It was a full and half marathon. I would recommend it for next year. This was its 1st year so there were a few problems (like missing a crucial marshal!- hence everyone got lost). Brendan Gleeson opened it and it was a lovely sunny day!

I'm not doing Donegal so I look forward to hearing about it.

I'm training for 1st full marathon so any tips would be welcomed! I hope to do Dublin. What training plans are people using?

Cheers

Results for the full Mara are now up on the race website.

Jane, don't do it. But if you must then one tip from me is to start the race fresh - don't overtrain leading up to the race never mind what your schedule says. Good luck.

Hi BO. Are you male or female? I was wearing a black top and half length black shorts. Did I have food with you after? Are you from Clare? If so that was me. lol I found everyone so encouraging as I was very doubtful whether to run or not.
Whats for you next?

Nope not me, but I did Longford just under 1.57 so was probably beside you for most of the run! What is your training plan from here to Dublin?

Good to see everyone enjoyed themselves in Longford. I had a great time, wrists and shoulders were a bit sore afterwards
but my legs were fine. The old hip wasn,t too happy with the experience though.Jane, good luck in Dublin you,ll love it.
Owen and Roy, well done on finishing, any time is a good time for a marathon sorry I didn,t get to speak to any of you.I,ve entered the half in Connemara but will have to see what state my hip is in nearer the time.I,ll be back in Longford next year hopefully with a new hip, it may be a bit too soon to run on it so I.ll stick my bike in the car and follw the runners round.
Roy you know yourself after a few weeks you forget how hard it was and only remember how good you felt at the finish.
You,ll be back.

Hi
No I have no plan - think I will just copy yours it sounds doable! I'm reading lots of books about marathon training & I think the important thing is to get atleast one 20miler in but not too close to the race!
Good luck.
