Hi
I am training for the Dublin Marathon and currently up to 16miles - Should I aim to run 22miles before the big day or would getting up to 20miles suffice?
I don't want to over-train for the marathon as I've heard lots of different stories about people being wrecked on the day?
What are others out there doing?
Thanks
J

Hi J

Also hoping to do Dublin. I am no expert (and a newbie on this site - first post) but I think that a 20 miler is sufficient. I ran my first marathon in Edinburgh in May and the longest training run I did was 21 miles - however, I did have other 18, 19 and 20 mile training runs done also. This time round however I have had to stop for 4 weeks due to injury - back training for the last 2 weeks and am planning on getting one 20 mile run in before the big day.

I think that the most important thing is to be fresh on the day - you really need to be feeling fresh when you hit the start line on the 27th.

Not sure if this helps at all but best of luck with the rest of your training and hope it all goes well for you on the day.

Listen to your body...on the day you plan to do your 20miles LSR, allocate for an extra 2 or 3 miles and see how you feel. If you feel OK after 20, go for the extra 2. If you don't, leave them for an other day.
Bear in mind that it is really mile20 that it gets hard, honeymoon finishes there :-) ..and there is still another 6 to go!
